Introducing Harold

Hi All,

Meet Harold, my Japanese import MK1 Eunos Roadster (MX-5 to us, Miata to the Americans).

Harold is my 1991 Eunos Roadster V-Spec finished in a lovely British Racing Green. Being 33 years old his body work and paint work needs some TLC, and that’s what we intend to do.

Below are some pictures of the outside, I’m yet to get better ones, so I will work on that.

To complement the BRG exterior, we have a wonderful tan interior complete with wooden Nardi steering wheel, and wooden handbrake. The seats are in surprisingly good condition for their age, and are very comfortable to sit in. Even more surprisingly, this 33 year old beast from the east has electric windows! And they work too at that.

Fortunately for me, the previous owner put a lot of time and effort in under the bonnet (Hood for American readers!). Firstly, you can see the cosmetic improvements, he painted the rocker cover in an excellent green and the finish is perfect. He also replaced the hoses with yellow ones. Albeit not to everyone’s taste, I really like it, and it’s my car. Hidden underneath there’s a brand new rad, new timing belt kit inc water pump, new aux belts and new crank and cam seals.

Now here’s for the question all two readers are asking, is it rusty? Thankfully, no! There was an advisory on the MOT for surface front subframe corrosion but that seems to be it. The sills and arches all seem solid, with the rear arches seemingly still having their factory spot welds. If someone has replaced them in the past, they did an excellent job! It’s my plan to get the garage cleared out and keep the car in the condition it’s in. Hopefully over winter i’ll get to cleaning up and treating that front subframe, and treat anything else I can get to with Lanoguard / Waxoyl or something of the like to prevent it evaporating in the British climate. More research to be done on that topic however.

I hope you enjoyed reading my introduction to my recently acquired Eunos Roadster, and I look forward to making more posts as I complete further updates on it.

Over and Out.
